Das Garten Haus, Fredericksburg, Texas, the garden

Kevin's Garden

Das Garten Haus was visited by Robin Lynn Griggs, the editor of The Herb Companion. In "Notes from the Editor", September 1999, she wrote:

"I recently stayed at Das Garten Haus, a bed-and-breakfast with grounds that live up to the name, in Fredericksburg, Texas. The proprietor, Kevin MacWithey, is a professional horticulturist who knew more than I ever will about gardening by the time he was fifteen years old (he spent his youthful summers gardening alongside his dad, a University of Montana botany professor)."

In the April/May 2000 issue of The Herb Companion, Robyn Griggs Lawrence wrote:

"The back door to my room at Das Garten Haus bed and breakfast opens onto a New Orleans-style courtyard full of blooming dianthus, pansies, violas, calendulas, and alyssum. Just beyond the garden, in a field of wildflowers, two gamecocks and two dozen chickens scavenge for insects and take care of table scraps."

Easter Sunday in the Hill Country!
"Dear Lynn and Kevin - once again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your inviting Bed and Breakfast - Das Garten Haus!  This is our ninth year to Fredericksburg and our seventh stay at your abode.  The garden becomes lovelier every year and it is a welcoming sight to weary travelers.  Your hard work certainly was worth the beauty you created!"
